Whytes Way
A holiday home perched on a steep mountain site.
The design is driven by the spectacular views afforded by a natural ledge high up a steep and rugged mountainside site near Simon’s Town. The living quarters are housed on the top level, articulated as a simple cabin and positioned at the base of a natural cliff face. The lower levels comprise a second accommodation unit and a garage level closest to the road.
The house was conceived as a series of experiences, taking in a variety of close and distant views, while catering to a range of entertainment options. The site is exposed, so much attention was given to ways of opening up to protected areas of the site, while preserving views through to the ocean.
